Rachel Khoo cooks Melbourne

Passionate world traveller, food creator and writer, Rachel Khoo, is uncovering Melbourne, and the wider state of Victoria’s culinary wonders for the world to see, in a new 8-part TV series which begins on Thursday, July 23, on SBS.

In pursuit of exciting new cooking ideas and inspirations that she then often sketches in her notebook to use when she’s back in her inner city apartment cooking, Rachel reveals a rich multicultural food scene driven by Melbourne’s melting pot of 140 nationalities.

As she walks down famed culinary hotspots such as Lygon Street, Brunswick Street and Chinatown, Rachel finds a vibrant bohemian feel, a vintage scene where everything old is new again and secret day trips to delight even the most knowledgeable of local Victorians.

Each episode will feature a travelogue aspect with a concentration on food, such as fruit picking at an orchard in the Yarra Valley, sampling local produce on enchanted daytrips to the Bellarine Peninsula and the Dandenong region, enjoying coffee in many of Melbourne’s iconic cafés, sipping milkshakes in a traditional century old milk bar, sampling gourmet food truck delights favoured by the sporting crowd or bike riding in St Kilda.

Rachel will spend eight weeks living, cooking and eating like a local, coming back to cook in a warehouse apartment in inner city Melbourne. The kitchen provides the backdrop for Rachel’s kitchen and a cosy place to cook some mouth-watering dishes for her new  friends. She will also join one local chef or gourmand each episode to create an innovative dish in their restaurant kitchen.

Bright, informative and engaging, Rachel Khoo’s Kitchen Notebook – Melbourne is a series that offers a world of delightful flavours and a unique insight to a very distinct and special Australian culinary region.

Rachel Khoo's Kitchen Notebook: Melbourne is a FremantleMedia Australia production for SBS based on the original series produced for BBC Worldwide by the BBC.

Dear Sir/Madam - Rachel visited a milk bar in tonight's edition. Can you please advise the name/address of the milk bar in question?

Thanks.
