Just when you thought custard tarts could not improve - a Malaysian company has raised the bar. The launch of Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart into Australia has been met with anticipation and excitement from fans of the snack that has taken Asia by storm. The first store opening took place on the 10th of December 2016 in Melbourne Central with fans queueing for up to an hour to get their cheese tart fix. Having launched with acclaim in Shanghai, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and Malaysia, Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart were always set for success.
ST Group Managing Director, Tatt Ghee Saw says, "We were expecting the stores to be busy, because we knew we had a lot of cheese-loving fans who have tried our tarts in the stores throughout Asia. But we were excited to see we had underestimated how many would show up on opening day."
Inspired by the distinct cheesy taste of Hokkaido dairy, and using a traditional recipe from Japan’s dairy heartland, it is not surprising that the famed ‘Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart’ is so popular throughout Asia. After a long process of taste testing using Australian ingredients, the company is confident that it has succeeded in recreating the Hokkaido cheese flavour perfectly.
