Dilmah's rare tea

Dilmah for the second consecutive year has released a limited supply of its unique Seasonal Flush Tea. A limited number of 2011 Uva Highlands Peko out ow 1000 caddies released worldwide will be available for sale in Australia.

Dilmah's Seasonal Flush teas can be likened to a perfect wine vintage - extremely rare yet of outstanding quality and the 2011 Uva Highlands Pekoe is no exception. With this year's near perfect growing conditions 100kgs of tea has been harvested.

Dilmah Seasonal Flush tea though rare is said to be chief amongst the reasons why Ceylon Tea is considered the finest in the world. It is unique in taste and embodies the sense of time and place - the terroir of tea.

"Our Seasonal Flush Tea embodies everything that is special in tea - the influence of nature, the art of the Teamaker and a passionate attention to detail in handpicking and production of each tea," said Merrill J Fernando, Dilmah founder.

Only a small amount of Dilmah's Uva Seasonal Flush tea is being made available for purchase in a limited special edition tin caddy containing just 100g of tea. The tea is wrapped in foil protecting it from moisture and ensures its freshness, flavour and natural antioxidants, and it is further protected by a double lid. Each tin is numbered and includes details of the Estate on which the tea was grown, date of handpicking and tasting notes. Every tin is also personally approved and individually signed by the Tea Taster.

The Uva Highlands Pekoe is a curly, high-grown tea with a dark brown leaf appearance and the raw, grassy aroma of fresh, Uva seasonal teas. The infused leaf tends khaki with flecks of jade and is a fresh, bright tea offering a complex of citrus, with hints of eucalyptus, mint and an energetic personality.

Established during the latter part of the 18th century, Uva Highland is an estate situated in the Uva Province of Sri Lanka in the Uva Valley. Located at an elevation of 4,000 to 4,3000 feet, Uva Highlands produces some of the world's finest teas.

Dilmah's tea pickers waited until July when the weather conditions were at an optimum. The cold winds that blow through the Uva Valley produce a unique condition within the leaves which locks in the flavour.

Dilmah officially launched the Uva Highlands Pekoe at the Dilmah t Bar in Warsaw, Poland in October.

There are only 1,000 caddies of the Uva Highlands Pekoe in the world. Australian tea aficionados can purchase their limited edition Seasonal Flush caddy from Dilmah while stocks last.

Proceeds from the sale of Dilmah tea support the work of the MJF Charitable Foundation. Established in 1999 to fulfill Merrill's pledge to make his business a matter of human service, the MJF Foundation touches the lives of thousands of underprivileged people each year.

In 2006, the Foundation directly or indirectly benefited the lives of 10,000 underprivileged Sri Lankans. That benefit will expand as the business of the Dilmah tea companies and necessarily, its social obligation, widen.

About Dilmah Tea

Dilmah Tea was born in 1988 in Australia when Merrill J. Fernando offered consumers for the first time, Garden Fresh, Single Origin, and Pure Ceylon Tea, packed at origin. That was the first time in the tea industry a tea producer offered tea that was picked, packed and perfected at source, direct to consumers.

For twenty one years the Dilmah family tea company has embodied the vision of its founder, to offer tea with authenticity, quality, natural goodness and ethics to tea drinkers around the world. By marketing his tea direct to consuming markets, Merrill J. Fernando ensures that the earnings from Dilmah remain in Sri Lanka to be shared among workers and the community.

Merrill's desire was to make his business a matter of human service. Today Dilmah is recognised as the world's only genuinely ethical tea. Proceeds from the sale of Dilmah tea support the work of the MJF Charitable Foundation. Established in 1999 to fulfill Merrill's pledge to make his business a matter of human service, the MJF Foundation touches the lives of thousands of underprivileged people each year.
