We're not sure if Fraser Doherty, the Scottish teenager who turned his Gran's secret jam recipe into a successful empire is making a point about turning the jam industry upside-down, or whether he is chuffed that it has reached 'downunder'! Doherty visited Sydney late last year promoting the launch of his iconic SuperJam brand in Australia. At just 14 years old, Fraser took inspiration from his Gran's delicious jams and created the SuperJam brand. The business quickly flourished, and by the age of 16, he had left school to pursue the brand and his passion for jam. From these humble beginnings, the company went on to sell millions of jars and today supplies supermarkets across Europe and recently launched in the US. Honest to Goodness is the sole distributer in Australia of SuperJam, a range of 100 percent pure fruit jams; sweetened with grape juice and made using super fruits, such as blueberries, blackcurrant and cranberries. It is a a Sydney-based online retailer, which is a wholesaler and distributor of certified organic food and natural food products. Fraser says, "My Gran thought it would be fun if she showed me how to make jam. I loved it and went out to see if I could sell the few jars I had made. I sold them all to the neighbours down the street and it grew and grew. Pretty soon I was producing a thousand jars of jam a week from my mum and dad's kitchen. It was then I realised I would need to get a bigger premises. SuperJam has won a variety of awards and is even exhibited in the National Museum of Scotland as an example of an 'Iconic Scottish Food Brand'. Fraser has also published two best-selling books: The SuperJam Cookbook and SuperBusiness, which reached No. 3 on Amazon |
