It had to happen eventually. With our love of sushi and donuts, someone finally had to come up with a love-child of these two firm favourites.
Some credit a vegan Instagram influencer who first created the blend and posted her pics online. Using donut moulds she pressed in sushi rice and decorated them to resemble mainstream sushi. Once the idea was out there, of course everyone wanted to play sushi-donut chefs, and the idea has spread worldwide. Even the Fishmarket Cafe at Sydney's Fish Market makes them, as these pictures show, and they are selling like - well, cool sushi donuts!
There is no end the the variations that you can use to create these healthy and tasty cuties which are sure to be a hit at any party. You just need to buy the donut moulds. ++++
But just so that pasta doesn't get to feel left out, with rice taking all the carb-glory, how about a spaghetti donut? Thanks to Open House Magazine we learn that the founders of Brooklyn-based Pop Pasta recently combined a popular Neapolitan dish, the spaghetti pie, with an American food icon, the doughnut. The spaghetti pasta is mixed with eggs and cheese before being fried together in a doughnut shape. On their menu are several versions of their doughnuts: oil and garlic pop, red pop (using red sauce), zucchini pop, carbonara pop and bolognese pop. Yum! |
