Make sure you have a valid passport

Before you visit a foreign country, it’s important to check you’re meeting their visa and immigration requirements. Some foreign governments require visitors to carry passports with at least six months of validity beyond their planned stay and may refuse entry if you don’t meet this criterion. With news the Australia Passport Office is experiencing “unprecedented” demand and a four-week backlog in its processing queue, now is the time to plan ahead and allow for extra time to turn-around this request.

COVID: Destination entry and Australian re-entry requirements

Familiarise yourself with COVID-19 entry and exit restrictions in Australia and in your destination. Have contingencies in place in the event your travel is impacted by border closures, curfews, movement restrictions or the unfortunate event that you’re struck down with illness yourself. Hot tip: not all travel insurances cover for COVID-19 disruptions, so check the ins-and-outs of your policy ahead of take-off for peace of mind.

Photocopy important documents

Although very unlikely to happen, it’s always good to be prepared for the worst. In the unfortunate event you lose or damage your important documents – like your passport and visa – it’s useful to have photocopies on-hand to organise replacements, so bring copies of your passport, visas, travel insurance and any tickets. It’s also worth writing down local emergency numbers on a small card to keep in your bag throughout the duration of your trip.
