Pack with a purpose |
Do you wish your travels could be more meaningful? Here's how to have a big impact in the communities you visit. Simply use a small amount of space in your luggage to pack supplies needed by community projects around the world. Simply select a Destination or an Initiative and see How to Pack. Let's say you have chosen Indonesia. Indonesia is a land of dramatic vistas, diverse cultures, and abundant color. Each international traveler is awed by the scenes and experiences offered by this South East Asia destination. Travelers can immerse themselves in exploration adventures as they take in the rice fields, volcanic cones, white beaches, and pristine desert islands. Roaming wildlife delight tourists as they explore the destination, and new cultural experiences greet visitors at every turn. For volunteer vacationers and humanitarians traveling to Indonesia, there is an abundance of opportunities to make a difference in the local communities. The Nihiwatu Project
The Sumba Foundation was founded in 2001 and strives to provide humanitarian aid by fostering village-based projects that impact health (including services and malaria control), education, water, and income-generation, all while preserving and respecting the fragile culture and traditions of the Sumbanese people. The Sumba Foundation is now helping over 20,000 people in more than 147 villages on Sumba. Over the last ten years they have been providing clean water, building and operating health care clinics, repairing and supplying schools, bringing in doctors and nurses, and helping to eradicate malaria and malnutrition, all while creating better lives and opportunities.
