Tour Sri Lanka with Peter Kuruvita

pkuruvita

Renowned Sydney chef, author and TV personality, Peter Kuruvita is someone we have grown to know and respect from his travel and cookery shows on SBS.

Now leading Australian adventure travel company, World Expeditions, has joined with him to craft an amazing new food safari to his fascinating Sri Lankan homeland.

The 12-day My Sri Lanka with Peter Kuruvita tour, which departs Colombo on 6th February, 2013, will take travellers behind-the-scenes to meet the people and discover the spices that make up Sri Lanka's melting pot and which first ignited Peter's passion for food.

From High Tea on the lawn at the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya to tea-inspired dinners at some of Sri Lanka's finest dining establishments to dining under the stars in Uda Walawe National Park, this is a unique opportunity to see the beautiful and diverse culture of Sri Lanka and gain an understanding of how it has impacted modern cuisine in Australia.

Highlights of this trip include accommodation in some of Sri Lanka's most exquisite boutique hotels, exploring the world heritage listed ruins at the old capital Anuradhapura and visiting an elephant orphanage. The specially prepared itinerary includes a visit to the rock fortress of Sigiriya and time exploring the hill town of Kandy with its splendid botanical gardens and lush tea plantations.

Peter Kuruvita was born in London to an Austrian mother and Sri Lankan father, and spent much of his childhood in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo, where he was introduced to the wonders of cooking by observing his grandmother prepare age-old Sri Lankan dishes in her simple kitchen.

"My grandmother prepared the family meals from ancient spice recipes passed down through the generations," remembers Peter. "It was fascinating to watch her cook such amazing meals on a basic wood stove."

Peter has worked in the kitchens of top hotels, resorts and restaurants all over the world and now heads up Flying Fish in Sydney. His books and TV series underline his deep repect for other cultures, and most especially their food and dining customs.
