Everest Jubilee Trek

everest

To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the first ascent of Everest, Aurora Expeditions will be running two Himalayan Treks in 2013.

The treks, led by Tashi Tenzing, the grandson of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, will commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the first ascent of Mt Everest by Tenzing and Sir Edmund Hillary.

The 'Classic Everest Trek' covers spectacular highlights of the Everest region, a migration route of Sherpa's for over a thousand years.

To meet with interested people in Sydney, the legendary Tashi Tenzing is flying in from Nepal to host an information evening on Tuesday 17th July, 2012.

The chance to be led through the Everest region by Tashi Tenzing is an incredible opportunity. Having climbed Everest three times himself, Tashi will regale stories of his own experiences and the fascinating history of his Sherpa heritage.

Trekkers will experience Sherpa hospitality first-hand while enjoying the breathtakingly beautiful Himalayas where Sherpa culture still thrives. They will gain insights into Sherpa culture and the incredible history of the Tenzing family.

Guests will meet family members and have the opportunity to visit Tashi's grandfather's house in Thame.  This small community of Sherpas are renowned for being the strongest in the region and between them have climbed Everest over a thousand times.

everest1The Classic Everest program is a relatively gentle trek with an average of three to four hours walking per day. Trekkers will pass through national parks brightened by wildflowers, cross icy rivers, visit monasteries and enjoy breathtaking mountain vistas. An optional 30 minute helicopter flight to Everest base camp is also available.

Springtime is the perfect time to visit the Everest region, as wildflowers emerge to fill the mountains in a swathe of colour. Early Autumn's post monsoon environment is the most popular time to trek with similar moderate temperatures and astonishingly clear mountain views.

Tours: Spring - April 18th - May 1st 2013 (13 days) Autumn - September 17th - September 30th 2013 (13 days). Full Itinerary details.
