Slow Life in the Maldives

maldives

Until the end of September, Maldive's Soneva Fushi offers local Volontourism  as part of Soneva's SLOW LIFE philosophy

Soneva Fushi is offering its guests the opportunity to give something back. By supporting the resort's efforts in the fields of permaculture, marine conservation and community education for a few hours each day in return, guests may enjoy the indulgent luxury of staying at Soneva Fushi on a complimentary basis.

Following its core principal of SLOW LIFE - Sustainable, Local, Organic, Wellness.  Learning, Inspiring, Fun, Experiences - and its passion and commitment to supporting the environment and local communities, Soneva Fushi has long been a pioneer of ecotourism.

Enjoying an extremely high level of repeat guests, Soneva Fushi knows its guests are of like mind and have devised the So Green, So Blue, So Aware, voluntourism package in response to this enthusiasm.

The package is for 6 nights, 3 of which are complimentary in return for four hours work for each of the first 3 days. The first day's work involves learning about permaculture - a philosophy which embraces working with rather than against nature in agricultural terms - working with both local farmers and school children to ensure year round crops and sustainable practice.

On the second day, guests will support marine research by learning about the health of the coral reefs and how to spot key ecological indicators - namely butterfly fish, groupers, sea cucumbers and parrotfish - as well as inspiring local school children about the wonders of the beach, reef and ocean ecosystems.

The final day involves a trip to the school on the neighbouring island of Maahlos, working directly with the children and discussing a variety of subjects from the importance of waste management, to the ban on shark fishing, sustainable fishing practices, coral reef maintenance and pledging to support the environment.

All three days guests will be in the safe hands of Soneva Fushi's own Marine Biologist, Frederica Siena and Permacultualist, Richard Brittaine.
