Weird and wacky buildings

Harness your inner climber!

Whether you are looking for a fun activity or a serious workout, there’s something for everyone with the five unique climbing options at Abu Dhabi's CLYMB, the world’s ultimate adventure hub revolutionising indoor skydiving and climbing. It also houses the world’s biggest indoor skydiving flight chamber with a record-breaking width of 32 feet (9.7m) and height of 104 feet (31.6m).

The SUMMYT is the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall at 141 feet (43m) in height, and then there are THE WALLS  to choose from, five of them, ranging in height.

Then there is Vessel in New York. The extraordinary centerpiece of Hudson Yards is its spiral staircase, a soaring new landmark, just meant to be climbed. This interactive artwork was imagined by Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio as a focal point where people can enjoy new perspectives of the city, and one another, from different heights, angles and vantage points.

With 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs - almost 2,500 individual steps and 80 landings - the vertical climb offers remarkable views of the city, the river and beyond.

The Wave is a residential project on the Vejle Fjord in Denmark, opening after an 11-year construction process. The Wave was designed as a new landmark for the town of Vejle in Jutland, and incorporates a public promenade along its eastern edge.

"The land surrounding Vejle is unique for its rolling hills, which are an uncommon sight in Denmark," says Søren Øllgaard, partner and design director at Henning Larsen.

The "wave" itself is formed using panels of terracotta rainscreen cladding, providing the roof for each tower with what looks – from a distance – like a continuous white sheet.
