Facts about the Northern Hemisphere

The word hemi/sphere in Greek means, literally, 'half ball'.
The northern hemisphere contains most of the planet's land, and roughly 90 percent of its human population.
It contains all of Europe, North America, Central America and the Caribbean plus the vast majority of Asia, about two-thirds of Africa, and a tenth of South America.
All of the Arctic Ocean is in the Northern Hemisphere as well as the northern parts of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans as well as many seas.
Winter lasts from the winter solstice (typically December 22) to the vernal equinox (typically March 20), while summer lasts from the summer solstice (typically June 21) through to the autumnal equinox (typically September 21).
In the Northern Hemisphere, objects moving across or above the surface of the Earth tend to turn to the right because of the coriolis effect. Air or water flows, such as ocean circulation, tend to move clockwise north of the equator (and anti-clockwise south of it).
Hurricanes and tropical storms spin anti-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere (clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere).
The shadow of a sun dial moves clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere (opposite of the Southern Hemisphere).
There are far fewer and less bright visible stars in the northern hemisphere compared to the Southern Hemisphere, making the Northern Hemisphere more suitable for deep-space observation, as it is not 'blinded' by the Milky Way.
