It's Still October |
The Sydney International Food Festival has had us all gasping for assistance after SO MUCH food and foodloving events. BUT the organisers promised Sydney's foodies a month to remember and there is still more in the final week: A MASTER CHEF MOMENT... OVER LUNCH! Join MasterChef judges Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris as they reunite with the star of series one, Poh Ling Yeow - now the presenter of the ABC TV show Poh's Kitchen. Dishes from their books will be on the menu at this very special luncheon, held to coincide with the launch of Poh's new book. Gary, George and Poh will be in conversation with Crave Sydney International Food Festival director Joanna Savill and will sign copies of their books. Monday October 25 at Star City. MORE TALK AND TASTING...Also on Monday 25, join author/chefs Luke Nguyen, his sister Pauline and brother-in-law Mark Jensen for a one-off evening at their hugely popular Red Lantern restaurant (normally booked out weeks in advance). This intimate night of shared stories from Secrets of the Red Lantern and Songs of Sapa will include a tasting menu with dishes from their books. GO MOLECULAR.... on Tuesday 26, with Signorelli Gastronomia's James Viles as he demonstrates the foams, spheres, froths and airs made famous by El Bulli's Ferran Adria - a night of Smoke and Mirrors. FOR THE LOVE OF SEAFOOD AT SYDNEY FISH MARKET.....October 23, 10am-5.30pm A celebration of all things seafood - from the fishermen who catch it to the recipes and wonderful food we all love. Get to the market early for the traditional Blessing of the Fleet ceremony, originating in Sicily to give fishermen a safe and bountiful journey. Stay for plenty of toe-tapping music and sumptuous seafood, cooking demonstrations, information sessions and displays, tastings and activities for the kids. FROM THE MIDDLE EAST TO THE BIG YUM CHA....Head to the inner west this weekend for Summer Hill's Middle-East inspired breakfast bazaar on Saturday October 23. Order your breakfast and be gastronomically transported to Cairo, the Souk and other Middle Eastern destinations by Egyptian, Turkish and Lebanese chefs. On Sunday head to the Ashfield Big Yum Cha on Liverpool Road; the finest Asian food strip in Sydney. Sample the flavours of regional China, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and India.. AND AN ARTS TABLE FOR 1000, HARBOURSIDE.....Chefs Adam Humphries (Restaurant Arras), Serif Kaya (Ottoman), Roberto Taffuri (Ventuno), Chloe Kinajil (Firefly) and Brigid Kennedy (Simmer on the Bay) are combining their talents - and their logistics skills - to serve a very special menu under the stars. Their six course Mediterranean-style degustation menu will feed up to 1000 people on Pier Two - at the inaugural 'Palette on the Pier' dinner created by the Walsh Bay Precinct Partnership to highlight the restaurants of the area and raise funds for Regional Arts NSW. Up to 250 tables will be set up along the wharf, with diners relaxing under the stars (or under cover if it rains) and enjoying great food and matched wines.
