(Images: Kaupo Kikkas) The End of the world cinema is perhaps the spookiest, weirdest place to see a film. Located 12 miles from the nearest town, Sharm el-Sheikh, in the desert on the southern tip of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, despite the ample seating and open-air location this place has proved a little out of the way for regular cinema-goers, it seems, as it has never (yet) been used.
Actually it is said that there was to be a premier, but it was sabotaged, and this bizarre brainchild is now abandoned. Most likely it will only be a matter of time before the desert sands take over and cover it. Already nature is beginning the process with the seats becoming weathered and cracked.
It is believed that the cinema was built in 2000 by a Frenchman with equipment purchased in Cairo. Little else is known, yet the real story could make a great movie! STOP PRESS! Read the latest.....
