(PIC: Berlinuno) Could there be anything more romantic than to visit Paris with your lover? Since 2008 many have gone one step further, engraving their names on padlocks then attaching these to the railings or grates of the famed Pont des Arts, hoping to prove that their love will last forever by tossing the keys into the Seine, to ensure their love stays as strong as the lock.] Over the years the number of locks covering the bridge increased to over 700,000 and, in 2014, the city decided to encourage tourists to take "selfies" instead of leaving love locks, launching the"Love Without Locks" campaign and social media hashtag. Finally in 2015, city council workmen began to cut down the estimated over a million locks weighing approximately 45 tons.
Paris is not alone. These padlocks are found in Yellow Mountain, China....
...near a bridge in Taipei, Taiwan....
