For most people, cooking for one isn’t much fun and food is a social pastime. Sydney Seafood School now in its 23rd year, is currently offering a new series of classes for people keen to make new friends who are into sharing the fun of cooking and eating. Seafood School Manager, Roberta Muir, says she’s surprised how often new friendships are formed at the School’s classes. “But I’ve also heard many people complain about how hard it is to meet others who share their love of cooking and eating,” Muir adds. “And I thought - what better place to meet fellow foodies than at a cooking class? All our classes are a great way to meet like-minded people, but some guests are more into the social aspect whereas others are more inclined to keep to themselves … this way we’re putting a roomful of social people together!”
Called Foodie Friends, and held on the first Friday of each month, these 2-hour hands-on classes feature a different easy seafood dish each month. After a cooking demonstration, guests cook in groups of 4-6 people then sit down to socialise and enjoy their meal and a glass of wine, all for just $75. This program, Muir says she’s finally given in to requests for a ‘Boys Only’ Seafood Barbecue class. “But to be fair,” she adds “I thought we also needed a ‘Girls Only’ class – the Fast & Fabulous Girls Day Out featuring three simple but impressive seafood dishes and lots of tips for creating fast, fabulous gourmet meals. Of course we’ll finish the afternoon relaxing with the girls over a delicious seafood feast and a glass of bubbles.”
