Bog snorkeling! If you're looking for a quirkier alternative to the Olympics, you need go no further west than Wales. Already famous for its unusual and quirky events, Llanwrtyd Wells presents The World Alternative Games 2012: with bog snorkelling, worm charming and a 'Wife Carrying Championship.' From 17 August to 2 September, the World Alternative Games land in Llanwrtyd, Powys, Wales. The idea for the Games was born after it was announced that London would be hosting the Olympics in 2012: Llanwrtyd decided to commemorate the event with one of its own. Already the site of one of the quirkiest sporting events on the British calendar - the World Alternative Games promise to showcase eccentricity and unusual skills. The competitors involved in the World Alternative Games are 'just as dedicated to their unique sports as their Olympian counterparts', but their sports include Worm Charming, Chariot Racing, Bathtubbing Championships and Wife Carrying Championships.
