Australia's Wild West |
(Photo credit: Glenda Blyth) When someone mentions Western Australia and enthuses about the wildflowers, please don't think they are only referring to a few shy orchids almost lost in the bush. While they are beautiful, this state has vast hectares of flowers such as these papery everlastings, above. Better still, each year, everyone is invited to plan a springtime wildflower holiday to see this state's over 12,000 species, 60 per cent of which are found nowhere else in the world. With good rainfall in June, this year indicates a bumper wildflower season. WA’s wildflower season is the largest wildflower show on Earth and a true spectacle of colour, with carpets of everlastings in the Coral Coast and Golden Outback regions. The WA Wildflower Guide contains information on where to see the best wildflowers and the WA Visitor Centre has also developed an online Wildflower Tracker. Updated daily, the interactive map shows exactly where the wildflowers are blooming around the State.
No time to travel far from the city? For the month of September, see thousands of extraordinary wildflowers from all across Western Australia blooming in one spot - in the spectacular Kings Park and Botanic Garden close to the Perth CBD. Celebrating the greatest wildflower show on Earth, the month long festival will see a number of free events including outdoor exhibitions, guided walks, art displays, family activities and more. |
