In one of Sydney's unlikeliest combos, here we have a trendy bar-cafe on one side and a shirt boutique on the other. The two sides merge and there's a reason for that. It's a family thing with one side of the family involved in the rag-trade, the other in hospitality. It works well as owner Adam's mum's baked cheesecake is a real hit, and his sister makes the decadent brownies. Adam blends and roasts the FAT coffee. Mick's Gourmet supplies the pies of the day, listed on the blackboard.
At night the whisky bar (dark spirits, as they refer to the single malts) swings into action. So it's all very inner city. Even the location, a trendy laneway down a few stairs between 275 Kent Street and Sussex Street, just along from Erskine Street, may be a surprise for some. Come for the coffee, served with tiny biscotti, and enjoy the decor mix (hessian stools, leather lounges, patchwork cushions) and the whacky Spanish signs. One advises "the toilet is not here". |
