The Japanese eat first with their eyes, pausing to appreciate the beauty of their cuisine and acknowledge the preparation involved before allowing a morsel to pass their lips. Authentic Japanese food is refined, subtle and inspiring and what most of us, outside of Japan, know of it is merely the tip of the iceberg! Japanese cuisine, like the country itself has developed many layers and contrasts throughout an intriguing history that spans thousands of years. Here is a tour that will provide the opportunity to experience the sights, tastes, aromas and philosophy behind this diverse cuisine - meeting and eating with beef farmers on the lush green island of Kyushu in southern Japan, making delicate sweets in the ancient, elegant capital of Kyoto, visiting food markets and artisanal food producers, or even slurping a bowl of regional ramen.
Taste Trekkers was founded by Sally Lynch an intrepid epicurean explorer who loves to follows her nose (literally sometimes) in order to discover something new; whether its an amazing local product, an isolated village seeped in tradition or an affable nonna whose recipe for torrone has been passed down verbally through the generations. These personal experiences are incorporated into the itineraries on her hosted treks to Vietnam, Japan, France & Spain. She has discovered that Taste Trekker travellers are people who like to travel comfortably but prefer to experience the authenticity of a hacienda over a Hilton, happy to hang out with the group but occasionally might want to go off and explore on their own for a bit. They also want to know more than just how something is cooked; they want to know where it came from, the history behind it and meet the people who make it. The group is usually made up of a wide range of ages; the one uniting feature, a healthy appreciation of good food and wine and a curiosity about the world. |
