It had no passengers yet it operated frequently and was vital to the city and its people. In fact all of Britain was served by it. Originally known as the Post Office Underground Railway, after its sixtieth anniversary in 1987, its name was changed to Mail Rail. +++++ After lying idle for some years, there are now plans to officially reopen the line in 2017 as a visitor ride along a short loop of track between the museum and the east and westbound platforms deep underneath Mount Pleasant sorting office. Upstairs, the Postal Museum will have a cafe and restaurant, museum, play area for children and a gift shop. |
