A first for Britain is a Sake Brewery and visitor centre in Fordham Abbey Estate, Cambridgeshire. Due to open in June, 2018, work is well underway. The Jichinsai Ceremony was held on 28th October 2016 to purify the site for the Brewery, and pray for the safety of all the people involved in the construction.
The ceremony was conducted by the Japanese priests.

The project is a new role for the red brick Georgian country house that stands on the ancient site of a Gilbertine priory founded in the reign of Henry III in the 13th century. The priory building is said to have been destroyed by fire in 1419. Following the reformation, the monastery was dissolved in 1538.
Although the rice needed to produce the saké will be imported from Japan, the makers will use local Cambridgeshire water. And there could be a new addition - they may even experiment with a sparkling saké. Keep up with progress of this project... |
