The town called 1770

The residents of the tiny town of 1770 in Queensland have to count their town's name rather than spell it. Here's why.

Built on the site of the second landing by James Cook and the crew of HM Bark Endeavour in May 1770 (Cook's first landing in what is now the state of Queensland), it was originally known as Round Hill. The name was changed in 1970 to commemorate the bicentennial of Cook's visit. The community of Seventeen Seventy (or 1770) hold the re-enactment of this historic landing in May each year as part of the town's 1770 Festival.

However....

..... this is not the only town named for a number. The US has several. There's the town of Hundred in West Virginia, named for an early settler who lived until he was 109.

Then there's Fifty-six in Arkansas, named for the school district, Ninety Six in South Carolina, Twentysix, Seventy-six and Eighty-eight in Kentucky, Eighty Four in Pennsylvania, and Sixes in Georgia.
