Easter treats in Victoria |
Hopping mad for chocolate ideas? Be glad if you are in Victoria this weekend! For a full foodie experience, visitors can hop on board the newly launched CafeBus day tours departing Melbourne to visit various local producers in Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley. Included on the tours are the respective region's sweetest delights. Visit the newly built Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, an impressive 16 hectare property with a delicious product range of every sort of chocolate or sweet treat imaginable, including the Yarra Valley 'Easter cow'. In Flinders, the bus takes a stop at Mornington Peninsula Chocolates where visitors can taste and witness the making of award winning chocolates using Belgian, French and Swiss couverture.
Chocolate appreciation is definitely on the rise, contributing towards the increase of specialty artisan chocolate shops and interactive chocolate experiences in Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Here is a sweet tempting range of Victoria's other quirkier venues and tours for Easter, 2013. Chocolate tours are the best introduction to sampling Melbourne's sweetest spots. Chocoholic Tours run regular walking tours on Friday, Saturday and Sundays with eight different experiences combining history, architecture and lots of chocolate tasting through Melbourne's laneways and arcades. Mamor Chocolates in Fitzroy run the Melbourne Chocolate History Tours lead by Professor Howard Frederick who takes visitors through the secret chocolate laneways of Melbourne's inner north suburbs. The tour focuses on the work of chocolatier MacPherson Robertson, creator of Freddo Frog, Cherry Ripe and Old Gold chocolates, visiting MacPherson's old factory and then ending the tour at Mamor's Szalén for a Chocolate Tasting High Tea. Proving popular on Melbourne's foodie scene are dessert degustations. Cafe Rosamond in Fitzroy hosts a dessert night every Thursday with leading dessert chef Pierre Roelofs, who offers a one, two or three dessert dinner course. Pierre's creativity is evident from his time at Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck in London. Mr Hive Kitchen and Bar at Crown Entertainment Complex, offers a three course sugar extravanganza with a take home goodie bag of their Dessert Bar treats. Expect delights such as a praline soufflé with Jasmine & Coco nib ice cream and the signature Mrs. Hive's Chocolate Bar. The Langham Hotel will continue its bespoke Burch & Purchese Afternoon Teas with Darren Purchese's creative spin on dessert classics such as his dangerously decadent dark chocolate, mandarin and salted caramel cake. Regional Victoria has also enticing chocolate experiences such as Panny's Amazing World of Chocolate at the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory. The sweetest adventure on the island, award-winning Panny's is a wonderland of experiences including a chocolate kitchen where visitors can create their own chocolates, see a two metre chocolate statue of Michelangelo's David and a thunderous chocolate waterfall. 'For the serious Chocoholic', Chocolate Mill in Mount Franklin, just seven kilometres north of Daylesford, is a strawbale building designed and built by the owners Jennifer Gregory and Chris Weippert. Priding themselves in sticking to old fashion techniques from the building construction to the way the owners make their chocolates, with no palm oil, preservatives and additives used in the products. |
