Cycling in Melbourne |
Put this on your wishlist for later in the year. It’s back! Melbourne’s most original cycling guide returns complete with new riding routes and fully updated suburb-by-suburb directory. People everywhere are taking to their bikes: from city-dwellers to tourists, families to commuters looking to beat the daily grind. Detailing the early history of our city’s love affair with the bicycle, along with an array of ideas and thoughts for the Melbourne rider of today, this new edition of The Casual Cyclist’s Guide brings a fresh and entertaining perspective to getting around town on two wheels. When it’s time to ride, a series of hand-drawn maps illustrate original riding routes that explore the city’s architecture, little-known backstreets, picturesque picnic spots, pools, pubs and cafés, old and new. Creative entrepreneur Matt Hurst, founder of bike-hire service The Humble Vintage, as well as writer behind the cult Melbourne for Visitors and Casual Cyclists maps, has brought together a collection of guests ranging from architects to chefs, historians to designers. The result is a one-of-a-kind collection of riding routes, anecdotes, tips and observations about the city and the bike. Forever keeping one eye on the road, leaving the other free to take in the city as it rolls on by, Matt’s love of relaxed, everyday riding is complemented by the following fine guests who share their thoughts on the city and the bike. Due out in September 2014, from Hardie Grant Books. |
