Melbourne is the first city to have been given the accolade of 'world's most liveable city' for five consecutive years. Celebrating 180 years since settlement by Europeans in 1835, it had a small and rocky start but is now a major Australian capital city.
Call them retro, but Melbourrnes residents love their trams and they are a cheap and efficient way to get around the city and inner suburbs. Better still, they make an ideal moving billboard for art and advertising.
The mid 1880s gold rush helped Melbourne's economy enormously and many of its beautiful buildings came after the money, and new residents, began to flow in to the state.
Melbourne is now a colourful, vibrant, stylish, and multicultural city. Great coffee, brilliant street art, a fashion capital, and some say, the most European of the Australian state capitals.
Quixotic and stylish by day, Melbourne shimmers by night.
