There's surprise in store for those of us who always thought dolphins are grey. In Thailand you are likely to come across shell-pink dolphins. In the Amazon region of South America, they can be even brighter - more of a carnation pink. This fellow, above, is a Chinese 'white' dolphin. At birth, the dolphins are black. They change to grey, then pinkish with spots when young. Adults are white.

An excellent place to see these is at Aava Resort & Spa in Khanom, Thailand situated on Nadan Beach, a nine-kilometre stretch of pristine golden sands lapping clear blue waters. Khanom is a fascinating destination renowned for these rare pink dolphins, which locals proudly protect in their idyllic living environment on the coastline. The resort arranges boat tours taking guests to meet these exquisite creatures as they roam freely in sheltered surrounds. Read more....
