Elephant owner for a day |
How does this sound for fun? Enjoy elephant-ownership for 24 hours at celebrated Thailand resort, The Sarojin. Here guests are offered a special interactive experience with the magnificent elephants of Thailand in the dense jungles on the edges of Khao Sok National Park. The new 'Elephant Owner For A Day' adventure invites guests to engage with the local mahouts and gain an insight into ensuring the welfare of healthy and contented elephants in a caring and responsible manner and discovering their important position in Thai culture. During this amazing experience for two people or for a family with children over the age of 10, guests will be assigned to clean, feed and care for their own elephant in a truly personal encounter. Accompanied by The Sarojin's knowledgeable and professional guides, guests will shadow mahouts from the Sairung Elephant Camp and learn the correct ways of interacting with free-roaming elephants, how to approach them using Thai greetings, general skin care, how to bathe them in the river, their overall digestion, how to feed them, basic mahout-style riding skills and the five key signs to identifying a healthy elephant - flapping tail and ears, moisture between their toes, markings on their bodies to indicate a good sleep pattern, volume of elephant waste and moisture in their manure. Guests can also take a dip in a jungle lake and swim around their elephant offering it friendly scrubs. The trunk becomes a virtual snorkel as the elephant submerges its body underwater and enjoys its leathery hide being scrubbed. Once land bound, again guests will learn how to ride the elephants bareback just as a mahout would. Perched on the necks of these gentle giants, guests will trek deep into the jungle to view the spectacular scenery located within this area of outstanding natural beauty. The bareback adventure culminates at the elephant camp with further interaction with the local mahouts and their families before bidding farewell to the elephants and returning in a luxury car to The Sarojin. The resort is a?55-minute drive north of Phuket International Airport, and is surrounded by five spectacular national parks and the world-famous dive sites of the Similan and Surin Islands. |
