Delightful Dingle |
The Dingle Peninsula - 'on the way to nothing but itself'
This is how travel writer Andrew McCarthy has described it, noting that 'you don't get there by accident'. One of the five Southern Peninsulas on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, Dingle is a destination, and 'the most beautiful place on earth' according to National Geographic.
Dingle town is arguably one of the island's more charming towns. Eclectic little fashion and jewellery shops on Green Street give way to intimate and cosy pubs, such as Ashes and Foxy John’s. The latter is a DIY store with beer taps and, consequently, the only pub in the country where you can sink a pint and satisfy your hardware needs at the same sitting.
One of the most iconoc sites on the Dingle Peninsula, Coumeenole is a popular stop for travellers on the Slea Head Drive, providing dramatic views of the Blasket Islands, one of the filming locations for Ryan's Daughter. |
