Bubbles in Paris

Mention 'bubbles' in France and most people will reach for a champagne glass.

However there are bubbles of another kind on the Seine now. These very useful bubbles are a way of getting around this magnificent river city with the minimum of fuss.

This summer, standard boats won’t be the only way to travel down Paris’ scenic River Seine. SeaBubble, the world’s first “flying” water taxi, will allow visitors to the City of Light to skim above the water's surface.

Designed by Alain Thébault and Anders Bringdal, the new vehicles offer a futuristic alternative to standard, street-travelling cabs and shared water taxis. Due to special, submerged “wings” hidden below the water, they are able to “fly” a few inches above the surface.

With fares comparable to Uber, each SeaBubble will seat five people (for now, this includes a driver) and will be available for hire at special docks along the river. SeaBubble taxis will be powered by electricity, making them an eco-friendly transport option. Since they will gracefully glide through the air at a maximum speed of 30 km/hour, they will be refreshingly silent and generate no waves.

With its green nature and overall efficiency, as well as futuristic and eco-friendly, the SeaBubble looks set to be the latest craze in convenient conveyances.

The owners of SeaBubble believe that pollution and global gridlock are not only threatening people's welfare, but are ultimately threatening our freedom of mobility.

In 2050, there will be four billion cars in the world's streets. Even if they are all powered by clean energies, it will still create a massive traffic jam. They believe that the future of mobility will rise from the water, a natural, historic path in the cities that has been underrated for a long time.
