Wine & dine in Hong Kong |
The annual Hong Kong Wine & Dine month returns this November and should you need more than the name itself to convince you to take part, here's what's in store. The jewel in the crown of the month-long celebration of fine wine and mouth-watering cuisine is the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival (November 1-4), which will be held on the foreshore of the harbour at West Kowloon with Hong Kong's spectacular skyline as its backdrop. The four-day festival will feature hundreds of booths serving a diverse menu of dishes and wines from around 20 countries and regions. Mix this with themed nights, wine classes and live entertainment and it's easy to see how it made ForbesTraveler.com's list of the top 10 international food and wine festivals in its inaugural year in 2009. And new to this year's Festival will be a Sweet Corner where pastry chefs will showcase their masterpieces and all things sweet will be paired with Champagne, Ice wine, Rosé and dessert wines. There will also be a new product zone where merchants will display first time releases and limited edition products.
Around town Hong Kong's dining hot spots will delight visitors with special promotions, entertainment and of course, exceptional cuisine from all corners of the globe. Don't miss the Lan Kwai Fong Carnival for everything from arts and craft to live entertainment, food, beer and that party atmosphere that makes it the city's most exciting nightlife spot.
Ways to get involved: While the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival is about experiencing the wonderful food and wine, for those who like a more hands-on approach Hong Kong offers numerous ways to get involved in the local wine and dine scene. Options available include learning the fine art of Chinese dim sum, enhancing your personal sommelier skills at the 8th Estate Winery and exploring the tastes of Hong Kong's oldest neighbourhoods. Accompanied by a licensed tour guide and local foodie this new walking food tour explores the tastes of the old neighbourhoods of Central and Sheung Wan. Savour Cantonese cuisine at selected eateries while learning about the lifestyle, history and culture of the people living in Asia's World City. Hong Kong's first and only winery, the 8th Estate Winery is unlike any other in Asia. A fully functional urban winery, the 8th Estate imports grapes from premier wine regions around the world to produce the wine locally. With rustic decor and an outdoor terrace sporting views over the ocean this new establishment is sure to become a popular hot spot. Easy 123 is a new dining and cooking studio bringing you a fun and knowledgeable cooking experience with a team of professional chefs and instructors. Learn how to make traditional dim sum and for fun create cartoon shaped characters that not only look cute but also taste delicious. Chief instructor, Denice Wai shares her culinary skills and lifelong enthusiasm for food at this new cooking school. Classes range from simple Chinese to Summer Seafood and Asian desserts, participants will leave with full stomachs and a passion to recreate the dishes at home. Tying in perfectly with HK's wine and dine theme is the opening of a number of hot new restaurants. From Nouvelle Gastronomy by world renowned chef Paco Roncero to a restaurant housed in a converted explosive magazine compound, these establishments add flavour to an already delicious dining scene. This uber-trendy new restaurant serving modern cross-cultural Asian and Mediterranean dishes is located at the Asia Society Hong Kong Centre, a former explosive magazine compound built in the 19th century. AMMO's designer Joyce Wang has created a unique copper decor (pictured) to match the history of the building and this alone makes it worth a visit! |
