24 hrs in Hong Kong |
Often referred to as the New York of the East, Hong Kong is constantly buzzing with energy, no matter the time of day or night, which is why it is possible to cram so much into a 24-hour itinerary. In such a short amount of time one can stimulate all of the senses, experience culture, tradition, amazing food and wine, shop and shop some more and party the remaining hours away at a swanky rooftop bar. Here is how we suggest spending 24 hours in Hong Kong: 6am: Tai Chi- Kowloon Park Head to Kowloon Park and start your morning with a healthy dose of Tai Chi. This ancient tradition is still practiced by Hong Kong locals every morning and visitors are always welcome to join in. 7am: Star Ferry The charming fleet of star ferries has been carrying passengers between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island since 1888 and is still a popular mode of transport for crossing the harbour today. At around AU$0.30 the 5 minute journey is one of Hong Kong’s cheapest and best attractions! 7:30am: Breakfast – Luk Yu Tea House Central When travelling, eating where the locals do is a great way to get a feel for a city and for those who live there and Hong Kong is the perfect place to indulge your taste buds. The Luk Yu Tea House is one of a number of restaurants in Central that serves a tasty assortment of local delicacies and is a unique place to experience a traditional Cantonese breakfast. 8:30am: Cheung Chau Island and Bike Ride Hong Kong has over 260 outlying islands and Cheung Chau Island has to be one of our favourites. Hire a bike (there are no cars!) and cycle through the small fishing villages stopping at temples, caves and beaches. Chueng Chau is also home to one of the world’s most quirky local festivals- The Cheung Chau Bun Festival - to get there take the New World First Ferry from Central on Hong Kong Island. 1:00pm: Dim Sum Lunch- Maxim’s City Hall When in Hong Kong experiencing a Dim Sum lunch is a must and Maxim’s at City Hall, one of many restaurants serving delicious food, still serves Dim Sum the traditional way on trolleys. 2:30pm: Tram to Causeway Bay- Shopping Climb aboard one of the city’s historic double-decker trams that have been travelling along the bustling streets of Hong Kong Island since 1904, grab a seat on the upper deck and take a ride to Causeway Bay. Here you will find a huge variety of local and international brands at excellent prices. 4:30pm: Foot Reflexology- Ten feet Tall After a couple of hours of hardcore shopping Foot Reflexology is the perfect remedy for weary soles. You will be amazed at how this age old tradition can heal other parts of your body- not just your feet! Ten feet Tall in Central is a new retreat in the heart of the city. 6:30pm: Sky100 Observation Deck followed by Cocktails at Ozone- the highest bar in the world For 360-degree views of Hong Kong head to the International Commerce Centre (ICC) in Kowloon, Hong Kong’s tallest building and take the elevator to the 100th floor where you will find one of Hong Kong’s newest attractions- Sky 100. Once you have taken in the amazing skyline try out the cocktails from the highest bar in the world- Ozone. Located on the 118th floor of the ICC Ozone is in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. 8:00pm: Dinner- SOHO Visitors to Hong Kong’s SOHO district will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. Restaurants serve both local and international cuisine while the many bars feature wines from all over the world, refreshing cocktails and more on their menus. Cicada wine bar restaurant is a great option for Asian tapas and if you need a thirst quencher, their killer list of Asian-inspired cocktails is to die for! 10pm: Nightlife- Lan Kwai Fong/Central The night is young so head to the bars and clubs of Lan Kwai Fong for live bands, dance music or just somewhere to enjoy a drink and people watch. Insomnia serves great cocktails and features live music. Or visit one of Hong Kong’s many rooftop bars (such as Sevva) to take in the amazing views while sipping your cocktail. Remember- you only have 24 hours! |
