Camp Gallipoli in South Australia |
Adelaide's Camp Gallipoli is an opportunity for families, schools and community groups to camp out under the stars and sleep in swags just how the Diggers would have 100 years ago. Camp Gallipoli will provide entertainment, special guests, movies, documentaries, food options and a dawn service to remember the ANZACs and the birth of the ANZAC spirit. The Glenelg air raid shelter is open on Anzac Day and showcases two exhibitions – We Will Remember and Memory Cove. The exhibitions are housed in the 1942 air raid shelter that was originally built to house war-time communications systems. The Yankalilla Anzac Day Dawn Service sees service personnel and veterans march to War Memorial Park to begin the dawn service. A gunfire breakfast is available after the service at the RSL Hall in Normanville for a gold coin donation.
For the first time in 70 years, The Pichi Pichi Railway and Country Women’s Association are joining forces to commemorate the ANZACs. During World War II the South Australian community of Quorn, with the support of Australian’s nationwide, supported troops and evacuees as they travelled on the rail line to and from Darwin. This Anzac Day the Troop Trains, their soldiers and the community will be honoured through a variety of activities hosted in Quorn. As part of the Tracks to War event an original Troop Train will be on public display at Quorn Station, The Country Women’s Association will be serving an authentic Troop Train meal, the Pichi Pichi workshop will be open for behind the scenes tours and the Pichi Pichi Explorer Steam Train will provide a two and a half hour return trip. In the evening a free screening of the blockbuster film, filmed in Quorn, The Water Diviner will be shown at the Quorn Town Hall. |
