Incas meet 21st century |
Glasses of pisco sour are ready to be raised. Platters of Andean delights are set to be served. It's party time at Palacio Nazarenas as this new hotel in Cuzco, Peru opens its giant wooden doors. Today marks the culmination of years of painstaking work as this former convent close to the city centre is reincarnated as a contemporary urban retreat. Restoration work has been so detailed that the building's foundations were excavated by hand with spoons, cleaned with brushes, then replaced in exactly the same spot. Now that is all part of its 600-year history as the building embarks on a brand new life. A stylish destination restaurant, Senzo, is pushing back the boundaries of Andean cuisine. Sun loungers line Cuzco's first outdoor heated swimming pool. Suites are supplied with oxygen to counteract the altitude and iPads with travel tips are handed to guests by personal butlers assigned to them throughout their stay.
The recently opened Palacio Nazarenas takes hospitality in Cuzco, Peru, to a higher realm. A painstakingly restored private residence-turned-convent, it blends original features including Inca walls and colonial frescoes with 21st-century indulgence. The hotel offers each guest the services of a personal butler 24/7. He or she will help you to create your own travel programmes, introduce local experts and even show you how to make your own herb-based cocktails in your room. Palacio Nazarenas offers a wide range of beautiful suites with stunning views over the ancient patio or the pool. Some allow sweeping vistas of the hillside Inca site of Sacsayhuaman or Cuzco’s cathedral in the Plaza de Armas.
