Marvel-ous travel in Kerala

Most couples like to travel - and sometimes each chooses a different path to explore for the day.

India's highly respected Marvel Tours has come up with an interesting concept they have called 'the lady life, a feminine path'.

Here's how it goes:

Start your day exploring the area to have an in-depth knowledge of the lifestyle of the women-folk who bring in the primary source of income for many of the families in the village. This tour has been planned in an effort to understand the intricacies in the life of these women-folk. The whole of this tour will be guided by a lady, who makes it even more realistic.

The food culture in India is as diverse as is its customs and traditions, with each community having their own style of cooking methods. To absorb a small portion of this vast storehouse of cooking techniques, visitors will experience a very unique cooking class with a local family.

The tour begins with a visit to the local market, with a homemaker, to get the spices, masalas, veggies or meat needed for the meal. This will help you get to understand these basic ingredients used in Indian cooking and interact with women in the market who sell these goods, as well as glimpsing the life and culture of the people, and the role that these women play in the day to day life through self-sustainability.

Back at the local home, as well as helping prepare the meal, you also have the chance to interact with other members of the extended family who all live happily under a single roof.

After a fully authentic meal, you then proceed for a small sneak peek into the lives of many of the female residents of the tea estates who pick the tealeaves then send them for processing. As you stroll through the resident quarters, enjoy a cup of tea from the village shop, and maybe spend some time with young children at the creche where they are cared for as their mothers work in the field.

If time permits, the last stop would be the Srishti Welfare Project that is also run by the wives of the estate managers with an aim of rehabilitating physically- and mentally-challenged children in the different estates.
