AREA: 338,424 square kilometres (64th largest country - about the size of Vietnam)

INDEPENDENCE: January 4th 1918 INDEPENDENCE DAY: December 6th 

CURRENCY: Euro. Currently about 1.35 euros to the Australian dollar.

CLIMATE: Warm summers and freezing winters.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGES: Finnish and Swedish, English is spoken by 63 percent.

  • Turku is one of the two European Capitals of Culture in 2011. The other is Tallinn, Estonia.
