The 60th Eurovision Song Contest – themed Building Bridges – will take place in Vienna from May 19 to 23, 2015. As a tolerant cosmopolitan city and international centre of culture, music and the arts, the lifestyle hub that is the Austrian capital provides the ideal setting for this event. Vienna is delighted to confirm that both semi-finals (May 19 and 21, 2015) of the Eurovision Song Contest and the grand final (May 23, 2015) will take place at the Wiener Stadthalle. Austria’s Conchita Wurst, who won the international music competition in Copenhagen in 2014 with her song, Rise Like A Phoenix, will definitely be among the live acts. Vienna meets all the requirements for hosting major events such as the European Song Contest. The city’s international appeal stems from its cosmopolitan outlook which in turn comes from its multicultural make up – something that dates back to the times of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Today around 570,000 people of foreign origin live in Vienna, with 198 nations represented in total. About 49 percent of the capital’s population have some sort of immigrant background, meaning that they were not born in Austria or one or both parents are from outside the country. Austria’s largest city is famous worldwide as an international centre of culture, music and the arts. Every night in Vienna around 10,000 music fans are treated to live classical music, and each year the Vienna concert schedule includes more than 15,000 events of various sizes and genres. |
