SNACKS & STREET FOOD: Hawker stalls in the street or food courts sell a wide range of rice or noodle dishes, curries, fruits, and desserts. 

BREAD: Roti prata, chapatti, naan. 

POPULAR DISHES: Fish head curry, chilli crab, black pepper crab, Murtabak 

OTHER DISHES: Char kway teow, Claypot chicken rice, Hokkien mee, Popiah, Mee goring, Laksa.

LOCAL DRINKS: Coffee, tea, teh tarik, Tiger beer, Singapore Sling 

PRODUCE: Fish and seafood, eggs, pork. 

UNUSUAL FOODS: Durian, a prickly fruit with a pungent aroma.

SOUTH KOREA: officially Republic of Korea (ROK)

CAPITAL: Seoul

ETHNIC INFLUENCES: China, Japan

POPULAR RESTAURANTS: N Grill, revolving restaurant at N Seoul Tower, Mt. Nam; Mad for Garlic, several restaurants in Seoul.

BREAKFAST: rice, soup or stew and side dishes.

SNACKS: Mung bean pancakes.

BREAD: rice cakes, pancakes.

POPULAR DISHES: Bibimbap, a rice dish, various tofu dishes, soups, stews, noodle and rice dishes. Each meal is served with a number of side dishes (banchan)

OTHER DISHES: Korean royal court cuisine brought all regional dishes together. Condiments include soy sauce, fermented soya bean paste, sesame oil, and chilli paste.

LOCAL DRINKS: Rice wine, herbal wines exist in Korean cuisine. Herbal wines made from acacia, maesil plum, Chinese quince, cherry, pine fruits, and pomegranate and ginseng-based wines. Green tea.

PRODUCE: Rice, wheat, buckwheat, ginseng, seafood, azuki and mung beans, soya beans, quinces, persimmons. Cattle, chicken, pigs,

NEED TO KNOW: Vegetarian dishes are readily available. Dairy products are rarely served. Most meals are served at low tables while diners are seated on the floor.

UNUSUAL FOODS: Kim chi is a standard at every meal. Pickled and chilli hot fermented cabbage. A jelly is made from ground acorns. Dog meat is also eaten.

FESTIVAL FOODS: Banquets, and rice cakes and confectionery.

HEALTHY EATING: Because of the fermentation process and the resulting lactic acid, kim chi is believed to help prevent viruses and infection. Ginseng is thought to give strength.
