Indian Pacific turns 45 |
It is time to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Australia's first transcontinental rail journey.
On February 23, 1970, a new passenger train departed Sydney's Central Station. Sixty two hours and 20 minutes later, it was met by a roaring 10,000-strong crowd in Perth. After one single, uninterrupted journey across the incredible 4352km breadth of the continent, the Indian Pacific had arrived. Forty five years later, the Indian Pacific has delivered on expectations, ranking alongside the Blue Train and Orient Express as one of the world's must-do rail experiences. In its 45th anniversary year, the Indian Pacific is introducing brand new experiences to its itinerary as it continues to journey beyond to amazing Australian destinations . NEW Barossa Valley excursion from 1 April 2015: All Indian Pacific journeys departing Sydney will offer guests an all-inclusive extended stop in South Australia's Barossa Valley. Enjoy lunch at Maggie Beer's iconic Farmhouse, sample a fine drop at a range of boutique wineries and immerse yourself in the picturesque setting of this world-renowned wine region. NEW dinner under the stars at Rawlinna from 1 April 2015: All Indian Pacific journeys departing Sydney will feature an unforgettable off-train dinner at the Nullarbor outpost of Rawlinna. Eat and drink with friends under a canopy of outback stars in one of the most remote destinations in Australia. NEW exclusive dining for Indian Pacific Platinum Service guests in 2015: Platinum Service guests are now invited to unwind in the exclusive Platinum Club carriage, where relaxed dining is the order of the day. Whether it's an intimate dinner for two or a group celebration, the Platinum Club offers flexibility, privacy and all the luxuries associated with our highest level of on-board service.
