Unlock New Caledonia's secrets |
Proving that there' s more to New Caledonia than Noumea, a new way to travel in New Caledonia has emerged and is set to attract people from all over the world including Australia. Using a global positioning system (GPS) New Caledonia has turned into a high-tech treasure hunt taking travellers on a journey through savannahs sprinkled with paperbark, rugged coastline, beautiful beaches, lush vegetation, turquoise lagoons, wide rivers and spectacular waterfalls. New Caledonia’s North Province Tourism, in partnership with the Tourist Information Points Province, launched its geo-cache route this year. The GeoTour Passport to the North, encourages travellers to explore and discover the hidden treasures of the north via new GPS itineraries. Encompassing the top north region, beyond the town of Koumac, as well as the west and east coasts of Grand Terre, this new way of touring was created to highlight the diversity and beauty of the region. With around 20 geocache locations, the GeoTour Passport to the North offers self-guided routes taking around seven to ten days. Travellers also have the option to focus on specific paths in the north, including the Mining North, Oceania Coast, Far North and the beautiful Spaces of the West. The GeoTour Passport to the North is a unique way of personalising any itinerary. Registration is free and travellers can also share their experience on the cache page.
